Kansai International Airport (KIX) lies 50 km / 31 miles south-west of Osaka on a man-made island. The airport can be reached by driving across the Access Bridge, with a toll payable. Either cash or a credit card can be used for the toll bridge.
Close to Kansai Airport, the Hanwa Expressway lies to the west of the complex and is sited towards the centre of Osaka. Also close by you will find Namba, Sakai and Tennoji, all of which are located to the north-east.
Directions to Kansai International Airport (KIX) from the north:
- Drive south on the Nishi-meihan Expressway
- When you reach the Hanshin Expressway (Wangan Route), turn south
- If you are coming from Osaka, follow the Hanshin Expressway (Wangan Route) south
- Follow the signs and turn off the expressway onto the Airport Access Toll Bridge
Directions to Kansai International Airport (KIX) from the east:
- Coming from the east, join the Hanwa Expressway at the Matsubara junction and head south
- Turn at the Izumisano junction and follow the signs
- Follow the road to the Airport Access Toll Bridge
- Cross the bridge and follow the road to the airport
Directions to Kansai International Airport (KIX) from the south:
- From the south, follow the Hanwa Expressway north
- Turn at the Izumisano junction and follow the signs
- Follow the road to the Airport Access Toll Bridge
- Cross the bridge and follow the road to the terminal
Directions to Kansai International Airport (KIX) from the west:
- As the airport is on an offshore island, it is impossible to drive from the west
- The only way to approach from the west is to catch a ferry from Sumoto on Awaji Island
Traffic conditions in Osaka vary and the journey from the city centre to Kansai Airport can take anything from 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the time of day you are travelling.
